This extensive article relays in detail the activities students experienced as they developed an understanding of how the hand moves. The end product was the creation of a schematic for a prosthetic hand. Using this schematic, a prototype designed by a local university brought the student creations to life. Although the process and product are unique, the ability for most teachers to replicate this activity in their own classrooms may be difficult, since it relies on strong community connections.
