This activity has my attention because it allows students to explore how pH effects an ecosystem. This is one of those activities that can be taken directly from the article to the classroom with minimal modifications and have immediate success. The materials are readily available, the charts and data collection tools are already created and ready to use. I especially appreciated the reference section that provides extra resources that add to the learning experience for students. As a STEM teacher, this unit will be easily used as a preface to my Forensic unit where students have to collect evidence from a crime scene that involves them finding soil embedded in tire tracks and determining possible locations the soil could have come from.
