While the article was published in 2003, the authors embrace the Next Generation Science Standards by engaging students in physics through a variety of science-based texts and films, opposed to primarily relying on a traditional textbook. By doing so, students are given an opportunity to explore phenomena and form their own explanations through both independent and group activities. Additionally, students are becoming smarter consumers of information and developing technical reading skills, which will benefit them far beyond their high school science class. Overall, the ideas presented in the article can be generalized to fit a variety of instructional needs and are a great way of adding diversity to a science curriculum.

The authors designed a wonderful method to incorporate trade books in the physics classroom. This method could actually be used in any science classroom. The teacher would just have to use different books. I am excited to use some of the ideas suggested in this resource with my physics class when we study modern physics/quantum theory.
