Making Connections with Digital Data: Digital camera technology helps students draw connections between their hypotheses, data, and inferences

Digital cameras can provide added value to classroom data collection allowing the students to make visual connections between their hypotheses, data, and inferences. Digital data appears more concrete and "real" to students than traditional observations. Digital cameras can also be used to implement inquiry skills—students feel they are truly participating in the scientific enterprise when they use technology to collect and manipulate data. This article provides examples of how cameras are used in Earth science, chemistry, biology, and physics.
