High school students engaged in activities as scientists do to collect information about the clouds and snow to verify the snow product from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite. This program was called SATELLITES. (Students and Teachers Evaluating Local Landscapes to Interpret the Earth from Space). Other students performed GLOBE (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment) protocols to field test them for that program. These are examples of collaborations between students and scientists to provide further learning to other students.

Through a variety of programs high school students interested in careers in science and college research professors establish an ongoing relationship for the benefit of both. Projects discussed are Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE ) and SATELLITES ( Students and Teachers Evaluating Local Landscapes to Interpret the Earth from Space)
