Induction and deduction are important to logical thinking in general and to science specifically, and should be important elements of the science curriculum. These two logical tools are the foundation of science and understanding them would benefit all learners. The activity on temperature and phase changes described in this article will help students to utilize these tools before reaching premature or incorrect conclusions during laboratory exercises.
