This article provides background information about the coral reefs but more importantly it show how scientists can use remote sensing to understand changes in an ecosystem below the surface of the ocean. This article has implications for physical science as well as it discusses the Electromagnetic Spectrum. For a secondary teacher it provides a lesson plan for use in their classroom. For the elementary teacher it provides information about technology and its use to help understand changes in our ecosystems.

As someone who is trying to put together a unit on Satellites and using the imagery, this article provides a nice part. But, this is difficult to put together. I always feel students need a great deal of background. I think a lot of the explanation provided by the author could be used as background for the students as well.
