This article explains what a Java applet is and provides suggestions about how it can be used in the classroom. These suggestions as well as screen shots cover direct teaching, use in computer labs, as well as use at home. More important than the pros and cons of using this form of technology, some really good applets websites are listed in a chart and separated by the science disciplines of biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth science. This makes finding them much easier although I have found good ones using a Google search. For someone not familiar with applets this is a great teaching tool not limited to high school as suggested by the placement of this article.
