This article is about the benefits of participating in a professional community. Aside being among a group of like-minded people such as those in the NSTA, there are professional journals which contains awesome new ideas and techniques for teaching a subject dear to your heart, and the conferences act as a way to recharge your batteries. When asked why the author belongs to NSTA he responds with " I belong so that I can learn, can form professional contacts, can encourage new colleagues, can support my profession, can speak with a united political voice, and can share the gifts of both knowledge and experience that colleagues have shared with me." This is certainly true for me as well.
