In an effort for students to learn to communicate with one another as well as to communicate as a scientist would, this author created a classroom symposium for students to become experts in a topic. This article provides a list of possible topics in a high school biology class, the student handout, the symposium paper rubric and the symposium presentation rubric. After the presentation there is a brief period for questions and answers much like an actual scientific symposium or poster presentation. This is a great way to model how scientists talk and share information.
