Learning science through young adult literature (YA Lit) is one way to combine literacy and science. This article introduces three books and provides project summaries associated with each of the books. The article also includes a list of possible literature appropriate for high school students. Hooking students into science is a challenge, but getting kids to read riveting novels can provide a basis for understanding. Students are usually interested in stories about others their own age, especially when the literature has an exciting plot line, and adversity that kids can relate to. The books can be used to support development of critical thinking skills, as well as building literacy, and anticipating their future world.
