This resource is very helpful for anyone new to the Next Generation Science Standards. Using the Life Sciences as a concrete example, the article defines everything discussed, so no extensive background knowledge is needed for understanding. In fact, I would suggest this for any parents confused about the new standards, as the explanation is that helpful. The article also relates how the NGSS were based off the Framework for K-12 Science Education, while also explaining how the transition from No Child Left Behind will be difficult without any resources for teachers to utilize.

This article is excellent for any teacher that uses the Life Science concepts in their curriculum. The article begins by listing the “Practices for K-12 Science Curriculum”, then next listing the “Crosscutting Concepts for K-12 Science Education”. The article then clearly explains what the four core ideas for Life Science are. Each of the four core ideas are clearly explained, followed by several charts showing the connection between core concepts, both Crosscutting Concepts and Science and Engineering concepts. Again, I recommend this article to all teachers (even elementary and middle school) that teach Life Science concepts within their curriculum.
