Description
Science Objects are two hour, on-line interactive inquiry-based content modules that help teachers better understand the science content they teach. This Science Object is the second of three Science Objects in the Explaining Matter with Elements, Atoms, and Molecules SciPack. It investigates how the classification of elements into families of elements with similar properties assisted with the development of the periodic table of elements.

This was especially good when listening to the material for correct pronumciation of terms. this history of the atom was of particular interest and how the development of theories from that, theories, into fact was presented effectively. |

I enjoyed this science object because there are very nice clear explanations about "Matter." It is extremely helpful to have guiding questions, interactive links, bolded words with definitions, great pictures, audio included, etc. Finally, the quiz was a nice recap of the information provided. |

This interactive activity attempts to explain the periodic table from a HIstorical Perspective. I believe this is a little weak. In fact the only weak part of the activity. Why, a key element that can be applied in a major way across the major sciences namely Biology, PHysics, and chemistry, is OXYGEN. There is a great story line in its' discovery. Namely the co-discovery of Lavoisier and Priestly. And, how the story of HOW they discovered it. However, the aspects of two interactive videos, followed interwoven with superior pictures, with some shown on an interesting chemical activity are superiior, and interesting. Within this activity can be found mumerous expample of good science. Example, the predictiion of future elements my early scitentists is excellent. Further, there are good questions for review, as well as constant inquiry questions for reflection, a summery, and quiz at the end. Finally, I thought the Point and click Glossary at the end should be included in all of my lesso |
