Science Beyond Classroom Walls: Fairs, Family Nights, Museums, and the Internet

by: John R. Cannon, Judith Sweeney Lederman, Monica Colucci, and Miosotys Smith

A field trip is only one example of how valuable connections between formal and informal education settings are for the teaching and learning of science. In this chapter, the authors provide ideas on expanding learning beyond the classroom. They describe informal science learning experiences in museums, learning centers, and science centers. They discuss schoolwide experiences such as science fairs, festivals, and family science nights, as well as provide internet resources for science and language teachers.
