Balloon in a Bottle

by: Bruce Yeany

Blowing up a balloon inside a bottle is difficult if there is no place for the air to be displaced. Once a balloon is blown up inside the bottle, the balloon remains blown up even with the mouth of the balloon wide open. The project in this chapter is presented as a handy way to recycle a few soda bottles or juice containers and at the same time investigate air pressure and fluids displacement. This demonstration can be used for elementary students if they have a basis of understanding for some simple concepts about matter.
