The simplest educational concept—and perhaps the most significant—to consider in designing tomorrow’s science programs is inquiry. In keeping with the Standards’ strong emphasis on inquiry-based programs, students increasingly will be exploring the world inside and outside the classroom. The move toward inquiry will mean that more space and greater flexibility will be needed in science facilities. There will also be a need for more extensive storage space because of the increased need for equipment and the greater emphasis on student projects. This brief outline is intended as a summary of some of the changes that are occurring in science education.
