Exam Corrections and Analysis, Student Perspective

by: Kathryn H. Sorensen
edited by: Thomas R. Lord, Donald P. French, and Linda W. Crow

One of the most difficult parts of being a teacher is giving exams back to students when you know, and students know, that they did not perform well. Students also perceive instructors as being tricky or unfair on exams. To help combat this perception, as well as to help students take responsibility for their own scores and exam preparation, the author has students perform exam corrections and analysis on their first two exams. Students are often surprised how much material they have simply not paid attention to while studying. A basic outline is provided in this chapter.
