Windows Into High-Achieving Science Classrooms

by: Joseph A. Taylor, Molly A.M. Stuhlsatz, and Rodger W. Bybee
edited by: Barry J. McCrae

For most science teachers, the vision of science instruction has been limited to what transpires in their own classrooms and possibly those of a few select colleagues. Rarely do they have the opportunity to examine learning environments outside their own state or nation. This chapter explores the frequency of learning experiences reported by students in the 30 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and identifies those most strongly associated with achievement on the PISA 2006 Science Assessment.
