Streamflow, or discharge, is defined by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as the volume of water flowing past a fixed point in a fixed unit of time. The discharge of a stream can be affected by many things, including topography and channel morphology. However, rainfall and land use have the greatest effect on stream discharge. Being able to calculate stream discharge is important because this information is needed to make flood frequency predictions. The objective of this investigation is to measure the discharge of a stream.
