As our society becomes more dependent on nanoscale science and engineering (NSE) technologies, children globally will grow up in a world in which they will need to apply NSE ideas. Without a firm understanding of NSE big ideas, young people will not have the foundation for further learning or for making sound decisions that will affect their daily lives and those of their children. Therefore, this chapter addresses five challenges the authors foresee to developing an NSE-educated citizenry.
