Conquering Culture and Psychology

by: Norman LaFave

Students bring their own experience base to the classroom, and it may diverge greatly from that of the teacher. This makes it extremely important that teachers make an effort to understand the community in which they teach and the experiences students have had in that community. Teaching examples and problems can then be formulated within that experience foundation, and misunderstandings of terminology or situation can be avoided. In this chapter, the author presents information on how to help a teacher formulate lessons within the existing experience foundation.
