Superconducting magnet

by: Arthur Eisenkraft and Larry D. Kirkpatrick

For those of us who grew up with conventional electromagnets, it is very strange to see an electromagnet that is not connected to an external power source. But that is what happens with a superconducting magnet. After a current has been established in the magnet, the magnet can be disconnected from the external power and it will continue to produce a steady magnetic field for a very long time.
