Student Chapters
In addition to our state/province chapters, NSTA has over 100 student chapters. NSTA and the student chapters are separate but interdependent organizations that have elected to ally themselves to encourage professional development and networking of preservice teachers of science from across the United States and Canada. Student chapter participation offers opportunities for increased leadership skills, career growth, and networking for students and faculty. To form a student chapter at your local college or university, simply download the NSTA Student Chapter Procedures Guide (PDF), e-mail the NSTA Chapter Relations Department, or check out our free archived virtual "how to" workshop.
NSTA Student Membership
Student membership in NSTA is available to preservice science education students whether or not they have an NSTA student chapter at their college or university.
To be eligible, you must be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a student with an interest in science education. Proof of student status (registration, class schedule, or professor verification) is required. Join online or download an application. Student membership may be upgraded to the new teacher membership upon graduation at the same reduced rate. Students must upgrade to individual membership status after six years.
For $32 per year, you will receive one of the NSTA journals of your choice, along with other great benefits. Multijournal rates are available. Learn more »

NSTA Preservice Teacher of Science Member of the NSTA Preservice Teacher Preparation Committee
The Preservice Teacher Preparation Committee of the NSTA Board of Directors seeks candidates to serve a one-year term on the Preservice Teacher Preparation Committee. Nominees must be active members in their NSTA student chapter. Purposes of this appointment include: to receive input from the preservice science teacher community and NSTA student chapters and to promote the professional development of preservice teachers and the appointed preservice teacher. Expectations for the candidate selected, NSTA support for the student, and additional information about the nomination and selection process are included in the Information and Nomination Packet.
