Jackie Speake

Jackie Speake is a STEM geek … and proud of it. Dr. Speake loves science and mathematics and believes that everyone can learn through inquiry and engineering design process. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park (go Terrapins) in Biological Sciences. After three years as a field biologist for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, two years as a water chemistry lab technician at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and three years as a research biologist with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Dr. Speake decided to go back to school in 1997 to get her Master of Education degree in Secondary Science Curriculum/Instruction from the University of South Florida (USF go Bulls) and became a certified high school biology and marine science teacher. As a lifelong learner who really enjoys collaborating and learning with colleagues, she returned to USF to study Education Leadership and Policy and received her doctorate in 2011. Dr. Speake's 20-year teaching career ranges from high school teacher, curriculum specialist in a Florida district with 18,000 students, state of Florida Department of Education Bureau of Curriculum and Instruction Office of Mathematics and Science, and senior director for curriculum and instruction in a large Florida school district with more than 100,000 students. Her passion is working with school and district teams to facilitate the development and implementation of standards-driven curriculum, instruction, assessments, inquiry lessons, professional development, and community partnerships. She now lives in Pittsburgh and is an independent consultant for Mathematics and Science Curriculum Development for Learning Sciences International.

Milton Huling

Milt Huling received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois, Edwardsville in Earth Space/Geology. He received a Master's Degree in Science Education from Florida State University. Milt received a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Science Education. He currently works as a science curriculum specialist for a large southeastern school district, teaches various science and math methods courses at Polk State College, and is also employed as a consultant for various prominent online resource companies.
