Portraying the work of scientists in the quickly advancing field of genetics, this NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2009 includes stories that range from the analysis of a mummy's DNA to research on the use of human stem cells. It would be appropriate for both independent reading and research, and it provides outstanding anecdotes and applications for teachers to use in support of middle and secondary life science curricula.

The book includes an interview with a DNA investigator, good explanations of basic content, and superb photographs. Its timeline, glossary, bibliography, and index will help readers look for further information.
