More than a dozen species of trees are the subject of the poems in this illustrated anthology. It covers everything from leaves to seeds, roots, and tree rings—all of which might inspire writing about nature. The accurate science and inspirational lyric text earned this book a place on the list of NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Books for 2011.

The poems appear over watermarks that often recall a species' bark or silouette, typeset vertically on double-page spreads making the book even more fascinating when read aloud. Detailed information about the trees as well as leaves and roots is provided at the end, so that the teacher or mentor can effectively continue the discussion long after the students' awe has been evoked. There's also a glossary.
