In an enchanting true story told in rhyme, Pierre the penguin overcomes obstacles that make him an outcast to the rookery. He lacks the insulating cover of feathers that are so important to survival in his species. A biologist named Pam finds a way to make Pierre fit in with the other penguins in the California aquarium.

Despite the fact that Pierre has a cute name and great appeal, this NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2011 infuses lots of real science into the story of Pierre's care at the aquarium. Students will understand the role of zoologists better as they share his story. The book includes "Questions for Kids to Answer," adding to its scientific value.
