This book lives up to its claim as "A Guide to Content, Style, and Formatting For Effective Science Lab Reports." This consumable handbook provides detailed guidance for developing a complete and comprehensive laboratory report. Its chapters on writing style, content, data analysis, and technology integration provide tools to effectively enhance student analytical and communication skills.

The four sample lab reports provide visual reinforcement of the chapters' content. Writing original lab reports increases student engagement in the experimental process and develops what the author calls "tools of learning." These tools include scientific inquiry, observation, experimentation, and documentation. The mastery of such skills benefits all students whether pursuing a science career or not.

The Student Lab Report Handbook is intended for use by students in grades 9 through 12. The high reading level and difficult vocabulary, however, may be very difficult for most typical secondary students. I would recommend The Handbook for instructors of AP classes and college undergraduate science courses as well as teachers seeking a primer on writing comprehensive lab reports.
