Archive: Teacher Tip Tuesday: The Science Teacher Special Issue on Immunology and COVID-19, March 15, 2023

The editors of the January/February 2023 issue of The Science Teacher join us to discuss the Special Issue on Immunology. The issue provides space for sharing current teaching strategies and tools for teaching about epidemics and viruses. We examine these issues within the Straif-Bourgeois framework for infectious disease, which delineates three dimensions of epidemiology:

  • the biology of disease and viruses as related to individual bodies;
  • the epidemiology of disease with a focus on incubation periods; and
  • the impacts of disease on communities.

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.

We invite you to register for upcoming web seminars at NSTA.

Below are comments from individuals who attended the seminar:

  • "I really enjoyed the advice on how to help students respectfully discuss issues and information with their parents."
  • "I really enjoyed this web seminar, I liked how interactive they were with the audience and the chat. They answered all of our questions and related the information to the real-world and how future educators can apply it in the classroom."
  • "I think the presenters really worded a complex topic well, they made information really easy to understand and went into detail about the differences in terms such as misinformation and malinformation."

A certificate of attendance was deposited into participants' account page for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
