Earth as a System

by: Geoff Holt and Nancy W. West

Earth is an extremely complex system with many components and subsystems, and they all interact and affect each other. The four major subsystems are atmosphere (air), lithosphere (land), hydrosphere (water), and biosphere (life). A change in one part of the system will cause changes in other parts.

This Reading provides background information on the underlying concepts in the Activities included in the book, Project Earth Science: Astronomy, Revised 2nd Edition. The Readings go beyond what is found in the background information in the Activities. They can be used as supplementary information for the teacher, or to enhance classroom discussions.
