The first part of this chapter explains the importance of the two practices that include elements designed to address the different goals and outcomes of engineering. The latter part of the chapter, shares a classroom case that illustrates the entire design cycle process and call out instances where each of the eight Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) practices is occurring. Students can and should engage in engineering throughout their K–12 careers. Engaging in engineering and design practices can prompt learners to more deeply understand scientific ideas. A list of materials, teacher background information, standards, assessment, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors, Contributors, Acknowledgments, and Index.
