Earth is the only planet we know of in the solar system that supports life. In this activity, students will investigate the way distance from a light source affects temperature—one of the many reasons why Earth is “just right” in its ability to support life. Students will measure temperature over time at different distances from a lamp. They also will guess the distance that will give them a target temperature, and then interpolate the distance from their graphed data. Finally, they will test their interpolated distance.
