Carefully chosen and properly used instructional technology can increase student learning and student interest. Poorly used instructional technology can do the opposite; we have all experienced this phenomenon when victimized by an enthusiastic new PowerPoint user. The decision to use instructional technology, or any other educational tool, should be centered on student learning. In this chapter the authors provide considerations from published reports and their own experience using instructional technology to facilitate student learning.
