Leadership for Public Understanding of Science

Science is generally considered to be one of the most important subjects in the school curriculum, even if it does not receive as much attention as math and reading-language arts, which have always formed the central core of the elementary school curriculum and, to a slightly lesser extent, the secondary school curriculum as well. The focus of this chapter centers on the formal system of schools and the role they have played in the public’s understanding in science.
