In this lesson, students investigate Newton’s laws of motion and apply their learning to make a more efficient ramp on which a car will travel. This learning activity is directly connected to the final challenge in which students build a model of the slide they design during this lesson. In mathematics, students record and graph data. They also note the geometric shapes on a swing set, taking measurements as an introduction to area measurements. In English language arts (ELA), they write an opinion paper to prepare for the final blog activity connected to the Swing Set Makeover Design Challenge. In social studies class, students finish their park research projects and build their exhibits. A materials list, teacher background information, safety practices, Internet resources, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, and Index.
