Magnetism is a well known physics phenomenon that is used, for example, in computers for magnetic recording, in Maglev trains, or for holding notes on a refrigerator door. Magnetism is a phenomenon in which the magnetic materials interact with one another by forces that attract or repel. A magnetic field is a region in which there is a magnetic interaction. Items that produce these magnetic effects are called magnets. The observations in this chapter provide some basic facts of magnetism that are important and need to be understood. Teacher background information, assessment, safety notes, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Authors, An Introduction to Phenomenon-based Learning, Appendix, Credits, and Index..
