Biological diversity is a hallmark of life on Earth. In this unit, students estimate biological diversity in two different aquatic ecosystems. They collect water and bottom detritus from two locations and make field notes about the locations. Each work group collects and examines one sample from each of two different locations. The data is pooled for analysis. Using this pooled data, students calculate two estimates of biodiversity for each location and compare the two locations.
