A signature of the STEM awakening has become the school–business connection. What was once the sole domain of career-technical education, workplace applications of content, and on-the-job learning permeate the core disciplines of math and science in a STEM school culture. This chapter characterizes some thriving models that bridge the widening education–industry chasm, defining the roles of teachers, students, and business partners. The emergence of work-based learning with its potency in soft skills—also known as employability skills, success skills, and human skills—development holds great promise. Teacher background information and references are included. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About This Book, Acknowledgments, Epilogue, and Index.
