by: David L. Brock

Roland Park Country School is an urban college preparatory school for students in grades K–12 located in Baltimore, Maryland. An independent all-girls school, the institution maintains a commitment to community outreach to address issues of equity and social justice, and as part of this investment, environmental education and stewardship is a central part of the school mission. The Environmental Science Summer Research Experience (E.S.S.R.E.) for Young Women has now played a positive role in the lives of young women from Baltimore for nine years. Providing the target audience the rare opportunity as high school students to work on the frontier of a relatively nascent scientific field, the program has received national recognition, and is changing lives for the better in Baltimore and beyond.
