A Sound Walk

edited by: William C. Ritz and William Straits

This activity takes the children on a sound walk around the school grounds or surrounding neighborhood to listen for different sounds. The children should walk without talking until they hear some sounds. Once back inside ask them to draw a picture of a sound from the walk. Write the name of each sound and then display the drawings in the classroom for the children to review and discuss. A materials list, internet resources, standards, and safety practices are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, About the Editors, Introduction, Simple Graphing for Young Children, Science Teaching Boards and Boxes, Basic Materials List, and Index.
