Archive: Using Federal Relief Funding to Support Science Education, July 15, 2021

COVID-19 has affected schools and students across the United States in ways that may not be fully
understood for decades. As a result, Congress has made emergency funds available through the
American Rescue Plan Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) Fund.

In this joint web seminar--developed by the Council of State Science Supervisors, the National Science
Education Leadership Association, and NSTA--for educators and science leaders at the state, district,
and school levels, we will discuss how these federal funds can be leveraged now to engage students
in developing understandings of phenomena and solving problems, in ways that equitably attend to
student needs and honor the unique set of skills and understandings that students bring with them.

Speakers will address how the major themes in Teaching K-12 Science and Engineering During a
Crisis provide context for what science teaching and learning may look like moving forward and
provide specific suggestions of how ARP ESSER funds can be spent to support students and
