The authors apply note that many students resist active learning approaches. A blended guided inquiry approach was used as an attempt to overcome this resistance. Lecture material was put online and class time was spend in guided inquiry. Content mastery was little changed from previous lecture classes but this approach allowed an additional unit to the course. This counters the idea that guided inquiry impedes broad content coverage.
NSTA Press produces classroom-ready activities, hands-on approaches to inquiry, relevant professional development, the latest scientific education news and research, assessment and standards-based instruction.
