The authors describe a unit on plant life cycles and a simple yet effective assessment tool they used to evaluate student learning. This lesson is very similar to the FOSS Structures of Life unit on plants that has been similarly effective in helping students to better understand plants. I think this is an effective unit and I like the idea of using the drawings as pre-post assessment. I might use a "story board" for students to diagram the life cycles in (a series of empty boxes like a comic strip where the students insert the "comic" or illustrations) and inform them that they may need a different number of boxes, either fewer or more but that this was to help them to get started. Or maybe just a circle and ask them to draw their pictures on the outside of it, I think either might effectively facilitate their life cycle drawings. Good lesson!
