Teaching environmental issues to K–12 students is an important part of a well-rounded science education. Teaching such issues isn’t easy because some of these issues are inherently frightening. Humans certainly cause changes in their environment, and many of these changes have altered the ecosystem and now threaten the long-term survival of our species. But how do we teach such important issues without scaring children or making them feel hopeless?
