In 2001 NSTA started a program for preservice science teachers in colleges gain access to professional development opportunities and in general provide support before they actually enter the profession. The MU-NSTA student chapter was founded in 2003. This article describes some of the activities this chapter has engaged at various times and at their once a month meeting. This article encourages the creation and participation in chapters at all universities.

This article discusses what an NSTA (college) student chapter is, and ways that in-service teachers can get involved. It points out benefits to pre-service teachers of having experiences with practicing professionals and how the the student chapter, in return, can provide resources for science events at the local schools - A win-win situation for all. While this was published in the Elementary journal, the information is valid for all levels K-16
