I feel this would be an excellent article for anyone interested in doing a PBL unit related to solid waste management or trying PBL for the first time. It provided a detail plan for the unit which connected closely to the NGSS and CCSS. The teacher in the article created a highly engaging PBL unit sparked by a student's classroom observation about the trash in the classroom. One quote that impacted me for this article was "Integrating several content areas into instruction provide opportunities for students to make connections to concepts that they readily may not have made without an interdisciplinary approach." This is a powerful quote about the importance of integrating multiple content areas into units throughout the year. I would be interested in knowing if after doing this unit was there any effect on the recycling practices in their school building. Did classrooms do a better job recycling and reducing the amount of solid waste?
