This article briefs us on vocabulary instructional strategies that teachers can use with English Learners (ELs). The article briefly explains and demonstrates 3 strategies EL students can use that activate prior knowledge and make connections to newly learned vocabulary in science. The English language is already challenging for ELs and having to learn the language on top of learning scientific vocabulary is even more challenging. Research has shown ELs tend to lag behind their native speaking peers so these instructional strategies explained in this article is just a few of the many strategies to help those challenges with English Learners. I really enjoyed this article. Me being an English learner myself, I can definitely relate and would have loved to have used these strategies in my schooling. After reading this article, I have learned 3 new strategies to use with my future students. Overall, a great article and will share with all my fellow colleagues!
