I truly enjoyed reading through this article. Actually taking the students to the zoo, engages the students more than just sitting in a classroom lecturing them. I love that it included the activities to do before going out. The students would be very much prepared to learn and do just as the teacher planned. The only thing that I would include that was not in this article would be the discussion of what each group found after we return or the next day. Overall, I cannot wait to use this in my classroom!

Wow, what an amazing article. Students did more than just go through the zoo to look at animals. Before going to the zoo they studied animals’ movements, structure, eating habits, grooming, etc. At the zoo students were assigned certain animals to observe using an ethogram to take notes for five minutes in 30 second intervals. After the trip the students had a greater appreciation of using careful observations to answer research questions and to determine is an animal might be sick or injured. I would have liked to see the article include a discussion of what took place back in the classroom after the trip to the zoo.
