I really enjoyed this article because of its integration of STEM and the fact that it has a greater goal in mind, which is helping the environment. I love that the teacher had the students write to a real life engineering team to help them decide which filters would work best. I also really liked the level of in depth conversation that the activity produced because the kids were so invested and motivated by this project. Overall, I would definitely recommend this article to any elementary school teacher or parent.

This article takes a new twisting on teaching engineering to students. The first thing students did in this activity was to analyze the results of a study of several water filters done by someone else. After analyzing those water filters they created their own and submitted the results to the person who conducted the first study. This is certainly real world work by research engineers!
