I agree with the ideas in this article, and specifically that a lot of tension regarding the NGSS comes from teachers wanting to hold on to past ways of teaching content through units or activities that are familiar and/or fun. I really appreciate the point that the emphasis of the NGSS is not depth of content, it is getting all students to a place where they can do science.
Bridging Gaps

I am in my last year of school to become an early childhood teacher. During this process many facts, guidelines, and standards have been thrown my way to read, learn about, and know. I am so thankful I came across your article. It definitely helped point out very important facts about the NGSS and it helped to clear up items I was unsure about. I feel this information will help me in my future as a teacher keep on track and remember what the ultimate goal of teaching science is, to make sure your students are prepared for the world around them.
